Made for how you actually work

Works in every app

Mail, Slack, Notes, your code editor — anywhere there's a cursor.

Hands-free

Double-tap the key and keep talking. Return finishes, Esc cancels.

English and Arabic

Follows your keyboard: Arabic keyboard, Arabic text. Switch the way you already do.

Private by design

Apple and Parakeet offer on-device transcription. Gemini uses Google’s cloud; Arabic may use Apple’s speech service when local recognition is unavailable.

What’s new in 0.6

  • Release notes in the app: the update banner and Settings now show what changed.
  • Automatic installs: turn them on in Settings ▸ Updates, and new versions install themselves.
  • Your choice: the anonymous daily update check can be turned off in Settings ▸ Privacy.
  • Sturdier updates: if the check-in service can’t be reached, VoiceX still finds new versions.

Questions

macOS says VoiceX can’t be opened

Download VoiceX from this page rather than using a copy forwarded in a chat app, which sometimes arrives incomplete. Drag VoiceX to Applications and open it from there, not from the disk image. VoiceX is signed and notarized by Apple; if macOS still refuses, open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

The key doesn’t type anything

VoiceX needs Accessibility permission to type into other apps. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Accessibility and turn on VoiceX. Still nothing? Open VoiceX’s Settings and check Permission Doctor: it tells you exactly what to fix, such as running VoiceX from Applications.

Arabic doesn’t work

Arabic uses Apple’s speech recognition, which needs Dictation turned on in System Settings ▸ Keyboard ▸ Dictation. To recognize Arabic on your Mac itself, add Arabic to the Dictation languages there; macOS downloads it once.

Does my voice leave my Mac?

Not with the Apple or Parakeet engines: they transcribe on your Mac. Gemini is an optional cloud engine; if you choose it, your audio is sent to Google to be transcribed. Arabic uses Apple’s speech service until the Arabic dictation language is installed on your Mac. The daily update check sends only an anonymous install ID, the app version, your macOS version, language setting and chip, never audio or text, and you can turn it off in Settings ▸ Privacy.

How do updates work?

VoiceX checks for updates once a day. When a new version is ready, a banner appears: one click installs it and reopens VoiceX. Rather not think about it? Turn on automatic installs in Settings ▸ Updates.
